I had decided to talk to my Dr about a more permanent birth control in 2010. I already had 1 child, and had no interest in having any more. My Dr suggested ESSURE. He raved on how simple and easy it was. He could do it right there in his office and I would be back to normal in no time! I thought to myself perfect, where do I sign up? He gave me the pamphlet to take home and look over, and scheduled my procudure for later that month. In December 2010, I had Essure implanted. Over the next 3-1/2 years I began gaining weight rapidly. My first thought was my thyroid, since I am hypothyroid, but then other things started happening. I couldn’t sleep, my joints ached so bad it hurt to walk, or even sit. Then the headaches, constant headaches, and the back pain….it hurt some days to even breathe. Housework was completely out of the question. One day I woke with excrutiating pain in my lower abdomen. I was sure my appendix was about to rupture, so I went directly to the emergency room. They took blood, urine samples, x-rays, ultrasounds, and everything was ‘normal’. I told the nurses and doctors about my implants, but they had never heard of Essure before, but sent me for another ultrasound, including and internal one, just to be sure. Of course, all results were normal. They kept me overnight for observation and pain control, and sent me on my way the next morning. I went to multiple specialist with no results. Weeks later I was back in the ER with the same symptoms. Went thru all the same testing with the same outcome….everything looks normal. The severe pain and symptoms carried on for years, as did the ER visits. It got to the point where the Dr at the emergency room straight up accussed me of having a serious addiction to pain meds, and that I make up my symptoms in my head. Finally is late 2013, a friend of mine shared her Essure story online. I was shocked to read her symptoms, and horror stories. It was like reading my own life word for word. It was then that I decided to go to my new OBGYN and demand he remove these coils from my body. He didn’t believe me at first, but agreed to do an ultrasound right then and there to see the coils himself and make sure they were where they should be. If something looked off, he would remove them right away. It took about 2 minutes fot the ultrasound to show that my right coil had torn thru the tube and migrated, embedding itself in my uterus. I was scheduled for surgery a week later. On December 18th, 2013, I underwent surgery to had my fallopian tubes, coils, and part of my uterus removed. I became free that day…E-free. Within 2 weeks of surgery, all my symptoms were gone. I am finally living a normal life, and I am absolutely certain that without having them removed, Essure would have literally been the death of me.
