I have 2 little ones and my husband and I had decided that we were done having children. I went in to speak with my obgyn about having an ablation for my heavy periods but was told that i needed to have permanent sterilization before they would do the ablation. My obgyn office said that they don’t do tubal anymore and instead offer the essure procedure and if for some reason they could didn’t fit that a tubal would be done.
I had Eessure put on February 25, 2014. Since then I have had constant medical issues. My issues started 4 days after the procedure when I was out to dinner with my husband for our wedding anniversary. It began with deep chills followed by sweating. My hearing became muffled and my vision started going black. I felt as though I was going to pass out.
The next 7 days were horrible. I went through various spells (I don’t know what else to call them) I would be freezing, then sweaty hot, then shaking, disoriented, I would see splotches of color in my vision (like a psychedelic light show). Since the first 7 days of hell I have daily been experiencing numbness/tingling in my neck and back of head, horrible headaches, sweating and deep chills, extra emotional, cramping in my pelvic region, throbbing hip and back pain, nausea, throwing up, hair loss, weight loss, bloating.
I have been able to semi manage over the past year by training my brain to ignore my body and instead stay busy with the lists of everything I need to get done in that day. It has helped but I shouldn’t have to do that. I am able to semi-manage it until a week before my period starts. Then it is so strong that I cannot. My body goes crazy. I have sudden spacey / dizzy feelings, headaches, nausea and throwing up and deep chills.
I have spoken with my obgyn from the start and he would give me a blank stare and tell me that it has nothing to do with Essure and that I should consult my pcp. So I did. I have had so much blood work done, ultra sounds and even a CT scan. My blood work came back normal and so did my ultra sounds and CT scan. My pcp has no other suggestions as to what it may be except that it appears as though it all started when I was implanted with essure.
I am now facing a LAVH hysterectomy at the age of 32 to remove these life sucking coils from my body. Not what I thought I would be preparing for at my age. This past year of my life has been nothing but medical testing and trying to keep my head above water. I want so badly to be the mom i used to be and not the crippled one I have become.
You will get well after the hysterectomy Angela, believe me! I hope you and your family will be fine soon. Essure really brings out the worst in our bodies. We should never trust our doctors when they say it is the safest product for us women.
