My story ???? My whole life I suffered from very long heavy menstral cycles. I decided to see a gynecologist about getting an ablation. I also needed a permanent form of birth control. She talked me into the essure, I wanted a tubal ligation. So in 2009 I had them both done, went for my 3 month check and discovered the left side coil wasn’t in the Fallopian tube. So she wants to put another one in. This time I was awake for it. After 30 minutes of excruciating pain i told her she had to stop. She said she couldn’t get another one in anyway. Let me add that a representative from essure was in the room telling her how many more cc’s of fluid to pump in to make my abdomen bigger so she would have more room to work with. So after all of that I still had to have a tubal ligation done on my left side. Shortly after I started bleeding heavier than I ever had but with it came a very sharp pain on my left side, horrible cramps, back pain and my tail bone would hurt so bad I could barely move. The bleeding never stopped nor did the pain on my left side. Most days I was doubled over crying. I went back to my gynecologist and she did an ultrasound and the spot where I was complaining the pain was coming from was a spot on the bottom of my uterus where the ‘lost’ coil was sitting. I went to her to take care of Menstral issues and ended up with more and worse off than when I started. She had no choice but to do a hysterectomy. In 2010 had my uterus and cervix removed. I asked her to remove the other coil on my right side but she said she couldn’t do it. In 2011 I was in rough shape. I had huge puffy fingers every joint in my body was inflamed. I couldn’t stand up without bracing myself on something. I couldn’t lift my arms over my head. I couldn’t sleep because my whole body hurt and was stiff. I could literally feel my body getting weaker. I went to my family doctor and he ran a bunch of tests. When he recevied the results he referred me on to a rheumatologist. In early 2012 I had the diagnosis of Mixed Connective Tissue disease. I mentioned to my rheumatologist that I still have one coil left and all my problems started when I had them put in. I was perfectly healthy and very active before essure. He didn’t believe that my disease is caused from that but maybe the hysterectomy triggered it and flipped the on switch. I still don’t agree, I believe that this is a newer medical device and not all repercussions have been seen yet. So what I am left with ??? I am on a weekly dose of a chemotherapy pill called methotrexate, which causes my liver enzymes to elevate. When this happens I have to come off for a while till they regulate back to normal. The disease is horrible and the med side effects are almost as bad. What do I want ?? To feel normal again ! I believe the company that makes essure is responsible for my health issues. I now forever have an auto immune disease and will be on wicked meds for it. I would still like to have the remaining coil removed to see if my issues go away. Since I don’t have a Doctor to agree with this I can’t get my insurance to cover it. Either way though if it was brought on by my hysterectomy essure is still responsible. I didn’t need one until I had the coils implanted.
